Before the snow starts really coming down, everyone needs to get those leaves and other debris out of the gutters so the roof doesn't have a chance to leak.
When water overflows the gutters due to buildup and then freezes, additional rain or melting snow can cause overflow that gets underneath the shingles and causes flooding into the house, damaging the roof and causing a host of other issues such as potential mold problems.
Do you clean your gutters, or do the people you live with clean theirs? They should!
Many people though prefer to have someone else clean their gutters for them though. The reasons vary from fear of heights to lack of equipment; usually a ladder.
Getting started cleaning gutters is a breeze as long as you are properly equipped for the job.
To get started with cleaning gutters you need only a few tools and a way to transport them.
Here is what you need:
- A ladder, suggest at a minimum a 28foot ladder to reach the second floor and not have to over extend your reach.
- Bucket, when your up there scooping the debris from the gutters no need to make more of a mess than necessary. Grab a 5 gallon bucket and fill that up so your not making a mess of the yard.
- Ladder Stabilizer, last thing anyone wants to do is fall from a ladder reaching to clean the gutters or having to move the ladder so you do not have to risk falling. A ladder stabilizer will help especially if your on a ladder by yourself on questionable ground or a steep roof.
- Trash barrel and trash bags. Where did you think you would dump the debris from the gutter? Be professional and haul the trash out. It will leave a better impression and you can price that into the job if needed.
- Gloves. You need gloves so as not to hurt yourself or get your hands dirtier than need be. A cheap pair of gloves from a dollar store goes a long way in helping get this job done right.
- Rope. This one is probably non - essential but if you want to carry multiple buckets a rope to hold them and or raise and lower them as they fill up is extremely helpful.
- A hose, this is needed to flush the gutters downspouts and make sure the gutters are fully clean and clear of debris.
At a minimum this is the recommended list to get you started but you can absolutely continue to add to it as you go to help you make more money. Don't forget to advertise, Craigslist, Offerup, 5 miles are great places to advertise and look for work.
